I had to cut a vacation from Portland to Disneyland out of my budget this year because it was going to be too expensive. The flight cost less than gas, but I would have had to rent a car or take an expensive shuttle to the hotel. If I'd drove, I would have had to spend extra on a hotel room in the middle of California, and paid for some maintenance to keep my old Buick from blowing a hose in the middle of No Man's Land (that stretch of I-5 between Fresno and Bakersfield where there's nothing but wheat, rice, and corn).
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Thank goodness someone came out & said it! Fuel costs affect not only travel, but if you start really looking, you can see the trickle effect on groceries and other goods. Why? Because almost everything is delivered by truck or air. So, material costs go up, and end result is the end products we consume cost more. Everyone feels the squeeze.

That being said....my vacation time and sanity & joy is always more important than saving a few $'s (within reason).....so unless I plan on driving a few thousand miles, it looks like having to take to the friendly skies regardless of fares.....
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
