It's a sad comment on our society. The one thing our elders have paid into all their lives to comfort them in their later years- their home- has to be "reversed mortgaged" for survival. We plan to have our home paid off in 3 years- with only one of us working and 3 kids in tow.

I cannot wait for my parents' mortgage burning party in about 2 years. I am sad that they'll sell the house I grew up in when they're fully retired, but I am thrilled that there will be no mortgage and they can focus on having some fun. I remember the episode on All in the Family. There was also an episode like that on M*A*S*H where Col. Potter (I think it was him) was doing the same. I didn't really get it then, but I totally get it now that I have a mortgage too.
