[...] Kara Swisher wrote, "Do your research. We did a lot and got pregnant quickly. We bought, for example, an ovulation predictor machine, which cost a few hundred dollars, rather than the cheaper pee sticks. It was much more accurate and we saved a lot in not having to inseminate a lot. We also did test to make sure we were actually ovulating (we each had one kid) as women don't every month." [...]
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Would a cashless society imply that Capital is becomeing even more ephemeral and "unreal"? Lots of critics of Capitalism have predicted this. Take it step further--you breath the clean air, you pay for it. Drink clean water from a fountain, you pay for it. Technology creating a "natural" capitalistic social ecosystem? One where consumption is increasingly private and government is continually diminished. We walk around the consumed landscape and just by moving hither and thither we engage in retail contracts with as much ease as we do strolling and breathing? Orwell would rock in his grave.

Also, what about the security risks and the risks to freedom associated with a more fully digitized society? I'm a 39 year old graduate student so I experienced the old days AND the coming of the so-called information age. It didn't come, it was made. It was made for the sake of profit seeking corporate enterprise first and foremost. And are the results for the better?

I've been following Queercents for a couple of weeks now and I see way too little criticism, critique and deep reflection about consequences beyond the "it would give (certain!) gay folk political security and leverage to have some money in the bank." That seems to be the fundamental philosophy of this blog and that simply is not the kind of aspiration that stands the test of time.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
