The Internal Revenue Service has given victims of the April 16th storms an additional 48 hours to file their tax returns.stormy city.jpg Taxpayers have until midnight Thursday, April 19th, to file their taxes.

The sudden devastation in the Northeast halted more than 400 flights at New York’s three main airports. Weather warnings were issued along the East Coast. Some warnings continued today.

The IRS reports “Across the Northeast, there have been power outages and public transportation problems making it difficult in some cases, if not impossible, for some taxpayers and tax professionals to meet the April 17th filing deadline.”

If you are affected simply write “APRIL 16 STORM” clearly and legibly on your tax returns. Most computerized tax prep programs include features to mark your returns in these situations. Use your help menu and search for “disaster” features.
