[...] In this series about preparing for life after debt and how to get there, I’ve covered how to identify bad debt; ways of organizing your finances to reduce bad debt; ideas for implementing a functional budget; and I released the Queercents Expense Tracker to make developing or staying within a budget easier.
You might want to make a copy of key pages in that financial notebook, say, annually, just in case. The same way people are supposed to back up their computers. Then maybe hide it or lock it up somewhere.

I have a similar thing, but it's on my laptop computer (danger!). I e-mail it to myself as an attachment annually. I don't have my actual passwords--I have a few memorized and have code names for them (high, medium, low) and then when none of them work for a new purpose, I modify one of those, and record the unchanged parts as blanks.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I have been using PocketMoney on my Palm Pilot for at least 4 years now and I love it. It is simple enough that I do not feel overwhelmed entering basic info (withdrawals/deposits/transfers) for my accounts. Then when I get my statement, I just go through it checking things off on my Palm then reconcile it.

Lately it's become a challenge keeping track of when the statements and payments are due since I've done an AOR and opened some investment accounts. I still use PocketMoney for my records. However, I have also set reminders in my calendar program for each of the bills on their statement due dates. Then, when the statement time comes, I go online, download it, check it against my records and set up an automatic payment either using Wachovia's billpay or automatic billpay from my HYSA. Just do not put it away for later, do it and forget about it.
