[...] In this series about preparing for life after debt and how to get there, I’ve covered how to identify bad debt; ways of organizing your finances to reduce bad debt; ideas for implementing a functional budget; and I released the Queercents Expense Tracker to make developing or staying within a budget easier. (Side note: It turns out the Queercents Expense Tracker is functional on both MS Excel and Open Office.)
And then there's the emergency budget-

like when your family increases overnight! For those who've known me from my posts here- my number of kids increased from 3 to 4 yesterday. We now have a newborn son in addition to our 8 yr old daughter, 5 yr old son, and 2 yr old daughter.

Everyone we know smiles, laughs, then says "Better you than us." We are so happy we're in shock from it all!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

You say, "it can be a pain in the butt to track each expense." This is so true.

But no one is ever bothered by all the other things an expense requires. For goods, you have to go to the store or website, look through all the things you aren't going to buy hoping to find something you do want to buy, perhaps try it out somehow, then wait in line at the register or do a lot of clicking online, then bring it home or wait for it to come in the mail, then unwrap it and deal with the garbage, then figure out where to store it. In the face of all that, it shouldn't be too hard to write down the purchase price somewhere or ask for a receipt and store it somewhere.

For services, it's a little different, but you often have to research your choices, contact the provider, perhaps set up automatic payments, and check that the service was done or done properly or ask them to try again if it wasn't done properly.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

As you found out...Its not the Budget thats a pain its the Process of setting it up and staying on it.

By the way...one of the easiest ways to track your Daily spending is by going to the bank and getting some extra Check Registers (usually you can get a couple for Free) and using them to write down each of your purchases...also makes looking back and seeing where the Money has gone easier.
