Forgot to mention this! The stable which paid me to teach begining riders also offered me free horseback riding any time I wanted, as a bonus. Since horseback riding at a commercial stable here is $25./hour, this was a great boon, and it helped the stable by having the horses exercised without having to pay a groom to do so! Win / win! Another hobby pays off!

Dear Friends, MANY HOBBIES CAN BE FINANCIALLY PROFITABLE. If you're finished with a collection, then selling is a good idea. I like to garden. We raise a lot of vegetable for the satisfaction of doing this. We then have loads of fresh vegetables to eat, can, give or sell, saving lots of cash, recycling kitchen and garden waste, all with a few garage sale purchased hand tools. I always LOVED horseback riding. A local stable hired me to use my hobby skills by teaching beginning riders basic horsemanship. Another hobby generating cash! I like antiques and collectibles, and buy them at yard an estate sales. THE EXTRAS ARE SOLD ON EBAY. Since the buyers pay all shipping and handling costs, and carboard boxes are free at many locations, this is another way to earn money from a hobby. IF A HOBBY HAS TAUGHT YOU ANYTHING, OTHERS WILL PAY TO HAVE YOU TEACH THEM. Look at teaching a course on comic book collecting at the local adult school. Many clubs will pay for a 20 minute presentation. You can work for others for money, grading their comic books. HOBBIES CAN EARN YOU CASH!

I would suggest calling different collectible stores to see if they know of someone who appraises stamps – then you can get price quotes over the phone and you don’t have to worry about them ’selling’ you.
Also, I would first check online like: eBay.com or http://www.findyourstampsvalue.com/ are a couple. Otherwise you can do searched for them but putting in descriptions.
Also, check out yahoo answers and describe a couple that you can’t find.

I got this fabulous stamp collection from my father and i want to get it appraised - but am scared of paying high appraisal fees while the stamps may not end up being worth anything. any suggestions on stamps?

I was a coin collector when I was a kid. I took all the pure silver coins out of the collection and then I gave it to a friend who is currently a collector. Guess I could have made some $$, but didn't care.
