From my experience in checking participating bank rates over the past several months, the CDARS deposit program banks do NOT pay higher end of the market for deposits. In my opinion, still easy to get better paying bank names/web site addresses from sites such as: Bauerfinancial-CD Rate Watch (BauerFinancial.com), GoTalk Money (GoTalkMoney.com) or Money-Rates-com (Money-Rates.com). Another VERY GOOD savings deposit blog is bankdealsblog.com.

If I had millions to invest, I would stay away from deposit brokers and would go direct to Banks/S&L's by looking actively on the web and look daily at these 4 web sites Best to stay below $100,000 per account for Individual; most will take $95,000 and send monthly interest checks. Don't forget local credit unions also. They should be insured by NCUA (similar to FDIC for Banks & S&L's.)

Good hunting!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Nina, great questions. I don't have an answer yet because I'm still figuring out what all of this means for me. But the news about Fanni Mae, Freddie Mac, and now Indy Mac definitely makes me feel like the economy is in BIG TIME trouble. Forget recession. I think we're WAY beyond that!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
