Beat the high costs with the early bird or twilight specials. In Oregon peak season they are usually $20 for 18 holes.

DivaJean: Actually, I'm much more sports-challenged than it might seem. I like to participate in individual sports, but don't make me sit through a WNBA game! Glad you're keeping the "free" part in your sports, whatever that happens to be! Cindy: I agree... and that's why we only play some of the time. Jeanine would like to play more, but yes, $75 for a round of golf in the OC is pretty much the minimum. There are a few places in the $45 range, but it shows in the upkeep the greens and fairways.

Golf doesn't have to be expensive, if you know what you are doing. Besides, who says that you can't play golf some of the time and enjoy other sports the rest of the time. The beauty about golf is that for 4 hours all you are concerned about is a little white ball. You hear nature around you. You feel your muscles moving if you walk and you get a good workout. Now I know it isn't the most "affordable" game for some, but it comes down to how your shop for things. If I lived in an area where a round of golf was 75 dollars minimum, I might pick up tennis.

Let it be known that I am not one of the sporty lesbians. My biggest "sport" lately has been chasing the two oldest kidlets learning to ride bikes without training wheels and teaching them to swim at the public pool after work... free for me minus the costs of their bikes and swimsuits. Hubby was involved with the local tee ball league for our oldest son- free. I am such a non sporty person, I will often joke with those around me - talking about the "touchdown" at t-ball or the "jumpshot" when someone catches the ball. I am definately one of the non sporty, softball inept lesbians.
