Thanks for all the great advice. I think many of the tips apply whether you're working from home or not.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Wow great article as always Paula! And one near and dear to my heart. I am trying to build a nutrition business on the side while holding down a full time job as a respiratory therapist (working niteshift!) and also have a PRN job over-reading pulmonary tests for a clinical trial company. Sometimes overwhelm overwhelms me.

Your article was full of good info! I have found when building a business out of a home office it's very easy to be focus-challenged with my four critters begging for my attention. It's also easy to work so much that all you do is work. And it's also easy to be consumed "doing stuff" which doesn't move you forward in your business.

It takes organization to keep yourself focused on what will move you forward. At the beginning of each week I sit down and write out my list of to-do's to build my business. Clients I need to call, ads I need to place, articles I need to write or finish writing etc etc etc. And I have learned to always schedule fun somewhere in the week.... actually write it in and stick with it! And it takes just a few minutes time to take care of all the critters needs before i sit down at the desk... hehehe
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Paula: This was an informative post and offers a lot of different perspectives... thanks!

I've worked from home for over a decade and never found myself to be focused-challenged. That all could change with the arrival of the baby at the end of the year. While we plan to arrange for in home care, there still are complexities with working when the house is full of others. Jennifer wrote a good post awhile back about how to adjust to working while your kid and another person are around.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
