Get There

There is a large multitude of factors necessary needed in order to be your own personal trainer. During this economic downward spiral, it’s best to cut costs where you can and most times it’s the fitness industry to take the bigger hits.

Honestly, if you want to cut down your money, it’s probably not the best option. Think of how much money you put into paying for a car each month. You’re only in the car for what’¦ two or three hours during the day? You’re in your body twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty-two weeks in a year.

End lecture, back to how to save money.

Being your own personal trainer might seem slightly daunting but I’ll take you through six basic tips that you’ll need in order to successfully pull it off.

The first tip is willpower.

Have you ever watched ‘œFull Metal Jacket’? Think of the douche bag drill instructor in that movie. That’s what you want to be to yourself. You want to push yourself to tears every single workout. You want to force yourself to move that weight or run that extra mile as much as possible.

I’m not talking self-hatred here, I’m just saying treat yourself like a drill instructor. When I run, I think to myself ‘œget there, get there’ and I keep running and somehow manage to get wherever it is I’m going. Think Dale Carnegie on speed.

Hey it works.

You also have to have the will power not to go to McDonald’s or Burger King because you’re tired. You have to make yourself get off the couch and prepare a healthy dinner (need suggestions for healthy meals, email me). You have to throw away all the junk food in your house. I’m serious; donate the Doritos and the ice cream to a homeless shelter. You don’t need it.

You need to get out of bed in the morning and get to the gym. You need to go to the gym after work. You need to push yourself.

If you want a mantra, then say ‘œI want to get healthy, so I’m gonna bust my ass until I am.’ Or, yanno, something along those lines.

The most important thing to ALWAYS remember when working out for the first (or fifteenth or five thousandth) time is to stretch. Check out How To Stretch for some videos and explanations as to what you should do before every workout (PS – Doesn’t matter where you live or who you are, 90% of yoga instructors are hot, just sayin…)

Cheap Substitutes for a Real Life Trainer

Go check out iTrain.com. They are this great group of trainers that got together and recorded their voices on an mp3 track that is available for download. Don’t worry, it’s not just some person talking in your ear ‘“ it’s prerecorded music and a trainer telling you what to do on which machine. They have boxing, running, even dance trainers. There are ‘œala cart’ purchases running around what you’d pay for on iTunes for a new song or monthly memberships that run as specials. I highly suggest them if you need someone else to tell you what to do.
