Here are ideas for tile mural installations , tips on framing the tiles and using field tiles to coordinate with the mural.. Considering the use of found vintage labels and a great way to showcase retro art.

Thanks for the great feedback - we are so happy with the results so far! It was a tough call, deciding what to do ourselves, and what to hire a professional to do. In the end, given the complexities of electricity(!) and Ikea cabinets, we defaulted to the latter. But by planning ahead and doing our research, we did save a lot on our purchases.

A note about contractors: my Mom told me about their renovations (back when I was about 6 years old), when the flooring guy left early to help his wife with something, left the linoleum rolled up on the lawn, and never came back. Make sure you do your homework on contractors, too!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

About two years ago I had a bedroom edition and bathroom renovation done. There was someone in our house (other than us) every day for 4 long months. We did not have a shower for 2 of those months. By the time it was done we said never again! But now, two years later, we're really glad we did it.

My spouse said it's like having a baby. The final product is worth it.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Wow! That was fast! It took me & hubby two weeks of work in lieu of vacation- but we hauled all our own stuff to the dump, installed everything- including tile backsplash & countertop. And we moved lines around in the kitchen for a better flow- water line to a new sink under the window versus in the corner; new gas line. We DID hire someone else to do the final gas line hookup- I was too afraid- but otherwise, it was all grunt work.

The old nut of fast but costs a bit more versus slower and costing less. I think you all got a great bargain!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I was so confused about why you swapped ovens for a broken one until I read further about them being hauled away. Good luck with the final stages of renovation!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
