Dude…I totally forgot…

You want to be as anal retentive, OCD as possible when it comes to working out and nutrition information. I have a Mac so I coordinate iCal with Excel workbooks of my workout program and nutrition information (seriously)

Most gyms have sheets like this available, but I made one just for fun.

Go out to dinner with friends? Great, remember exactly what you had (or write it down) and make sure you check the Internet later for the caloric content of whatever it was you consumed. The Internet is great for a lot of information on por’¦ err… yeah, caloric content at local restaurants. That’s what I’m talking about. Sorry, I got a little “Avenue Q” for a minute there.

Calorie Count

If you go to a restaurant that is not on any of these lists, ask the waiter/waitress if they have the information available. Most restaurants do, and if they don’t, the chef might know.

Also, you want to assess yourself. Make a solid goal for your working program. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to gain weight by building muscle? Do you want to just tone up and not look like a steroid freak?

The best (and most embarrassing) program I’ve put even myself on is the picture method. Every week that you work out, take a picture of yourself wearing as little as possible. Obviously, don’t show it to anyone else (unless, yanno, you’re into that sort of thing), but go through the picture with an eye for detail.

Circle areas that you think need work and make notes about them. Are your arms not tone? Ok, a little bit more cardio and some extra arm workouts on the weekdays. Is your stomach a little beer-belly-ish? Again, more cardio and maybe take an Abs class, or Pilates (those people have some crazy stomachs!). Want to work on your leg muscles? I’m just going to say this once: Spinning. Spinners are a rare breed of people that are utterly hyperactive and totally lean. Oh, and hot. I forgot to say they’re usually hot.

You are your own boss here, so you need to know exactly what you want to do, otherwise you could lose sight of it and start to slack off and get lazy.
