Lynn Casper QueercentsLynn Casper was born in the Philippines, had a brief stint in New York, and grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina (though her heart still yearns for the big city). She attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington and received a BA in Sociology with a minor in Women’s Studies. She interned at the Wilmington Housing Authority as their Community Garden Program Coordinator.

Lynn is an activist and community organizer who co-started the Be Yr Own Hero collective, which organized a Really Really Free Market, Critical Mass Bicycle Rides and Food Not Bombs chapter and an annual Be Yr Own Hero Festival in Wilmington. From there, Lynn and her partner wanted to focus more on the LGBTQ community and started Be Yr Own Queero. Lynn currently works as the Social Media Strategist for Working Films, a nonprofit that links non-fiction films with cutting edge activism. When she’s not working or doing activist work, she can be found making music, blogging, making videos and thinking up big ideas.

After a bicycle injury in October of 2007, resulting in a few broken teeth and a broken jaw, Lynn acquired some ugly medical bills without the luxury of health insurance. Luckily, she was able to get assistance through the hospital’s charity care program which helped cut the costs. During a month of being bed ridden with a wired jaw and drugged up on Oxycodone, she searched for opportunities on the internet to make and save money.
