Newport Beach, CA (April 30, 2008) ‘“ Queercents (http://www.queercents.com), a personal finance blog serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, today announced the launch of its weekly series about Reducing Pet Costs.

The series, written by Andrea Cecile, is geared toward pet owners looking for ways to minimize expenses while loving their little ones like children. Each week, Cecile will publish a post with a variety of tips and tricks to make sure those beloved furry friends don’t break the bank. Topics include:

  • Saving money on food
  • Money saving options for medical expenses
  • Playtime: cheap / DIY toy ideas
  • Home alone: boarding / sitting options
  • Saving on medication for sick pets; end of life care
  • Extras: grooming, day-care, spas and clothes
  • Thinking through the budget before getting a pet
  • Statistics on pet costs for the average American
  • Should pet expenses be tax-deductible?
  • Benefits + Splurges: What do you HAVE to spend on?

Cecile is currently the Director of Finance and Operations for a NYC-based non-profit and a new cat owner. She writes, ‘œI just got my very first pet five months ago; a pregnant tabby rescued from the roof adjacent to the apartment I share with my partner, Grace. Soon after, she had kittens and we ended up keeping one. I never had a pet as a child (my parents are very, very neat people) so although I knew this would be a huge emotional investment, what I didn’t realize is how much of a financial investment it would be as well.’ Read along each week as Cecile charts her findings and tips for pet care, pet food, and pet indulgences.
