Turning Spenders into Savers

Newport Beach, CA (October 16, 2008) ‘“ Queercents (http://www.queercents.com), a personal finance blog serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, announced the launch of its series called: Turning Spenders into Savers.

The series, written by Andrea Cecile, is geared toward gay and lesbian shoppers looking for ways to change their spending habits. Each week, Cecile will publish a post with a variety of tips and tricks to ensure a trip to the mall doesn’t wreck havoc on smart financial goals. Topics include:

  • Why we buy: Our hidden reasons for spending
  • Give yourself credit card: Putting your dreams first
  • Delaying Tactics: Sleeping on it
  • The Benefits to Paying in Cash
  • How to Determine Needs vs. Wants
  • Small Steps: Buying Something Cheaper
  • Avoidance shopping: Change your Routine
  • How to buy: Set Parameters in Advance
  • Understanding Sales Pitches
  • Consider Your Shopping Alternatives

Cecile is currently the Director of Finance and Operations for a NYC-based non-profit and an avid shopper. She writes, ‘œFor some people, it’s easy to walk away from that perfect purchase; for others, we need some additional motivation to get us out of the store.’ If you feel like you are spending more than you can afford, this series aims to help. Hopefully, by discovering hidden motivations with shopping and discussing saving tactics, gays and lesbians can apply this newfound wisdom and turn from spenders to savers.
