A Home-Made Holiday
4Th of July weekend is coming up in the U.S where we celebrate our freedoms realized through sacrifices made by the patriots who whooped the british, by eating BBQ’d meals, going on vacations and watching fireworks.
It is also the time of the year when people will get wonderful sunburns for the summer. A few home remedies for you if you forgot the suntan lotion
1. Apply undiluted apple cider vinegar to sunburn.
2. Mix 10 ounces Non-fat Dry Milk, 2 tablespoons salt and 25 ounces water. Saturate cloth and apply to sunburn 20 minutes. -A milk bath of sorts
3. Apply mayonnaise as a skin cream to sunburn.
4. Apply peanut oil to sun-burned areas.
5. Apply thin slices of cold cucumbers, apples, or potato directly to the skin.
6. Apply cold, plain yogurt, then rinse with cool water.
7. Apply cold, used tea bags to sun-burned eyelids to relieve pain and swelling.
If you don’t have the money to buy everything for your gathering to entertain the kids – try homemade as well:
Fingerpaint- l/3 cup of cornstarch
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 cups of cold water
Food color
1. Mix cornstarch, sugar and water in 1-quart saucepan.
2. Cook and stir over medium heat about 5 minutes or until thickened; remove from heat.
3. Divide the mixture into separate
cups or containers. Tint mixture in each container with a different food color. Stir several times until cool. Store in an airtight container. (The paint works best if you use it the same day you make it.)
And finally for the people BBQing that are having trouble lighting their fires, I submit the coke/chocolate fire from the survivalist guide- fire from a can of coke and chocolate bar.
Have a safe holiday weekend and remember to look out for the other guy while you drive
