Be Your Own Trainer – Time
The biggest complaint I’ve had from clients is ‘œI was too busy to get to the gym.’
The hell you were! You were busy being lazy. You were watching prime time television or catching up on a soap opera. But, don’t worry. It’s ok. You just have to learn to prioritize your time.
Growing up, my mother told me that there were ‘œalways one-thousand four hundred and forty minuets in each day. You just have to learn to use certain minutes one way, and certain minutes another way.’ I’ve always kind of followed that one, as militant as it may sound. I do schedule myself out week by week.
So let’s break it down. You work for eight hours and sleep for eight hours. That’s 16 hours right there. So you have exactly eight hours left do work out. Are you telling me, out of those eight hours, you can’t find a single hour in which to go to the gym?
Oh, please.
Your favorite show is on and you don’t want to miss it? Grab a pair of headphones and watch it from the treadmill or the elliptical machine at your local gym. It’s not on the TV’s? Ask the person that works the front desk to change the channel ‘“ I’m sure they’d like to make their customers happy. Television is the biggest brain fryer in the world as it is so, maybe you should detox yourself for a while, go pick up a book or something (My current suggestion is The Omnivores Delimia or Skinny Bitch, they will get your meal plan in shape really quick).
If you’re looking for a way to better ‘œgreen’ the world, take a shorter shower in the morning. Or better yet (and this one is depending on your gyms facilities) get dressed at the gym.
I have been exposed to and endless number of excuses and they’re all crap. If you want to tone up or lose weight then you have to make the effort.
Cheap Substitutes for a Real Life Trainer
Pedometer
This would obviously be the cheaper option of the two I have listed this week. Tracking the miles (or kilometers) is obviously an important step in calculating your workouts, so a pedometer would be a great asset. You can keep it clipped onto your waist to see how many laps around the cubicles you do each day at work.
Nike+
Nike and Apple teamed up a few years back and introduced to the world the Nike+ workout assistant. There are two different options available for this set up. Both you have to buy specially fitted Nike+ sneakers. The only difference between the two plans is one product plugs into your iPod, tracking everything including playlist selections and made viewable through iTunes. The other product connects the microchip wirelessly to a watch-like band that goes on your wrist. I believe it is along the same lines for the information that it tracks, however it may have heart rates as well (being so close to major arteries).
Peace!

Wow, Lucy. Way to say it like it really is. I’m glad you’re not watering down the fitness advice, because that’s exactly the kind of “straight talk” I needed to hear.
The truth hurts. Facts of life – you want progress, it’s gonna hurt a little.
I hate to admit it, but you speak (firmly) the truth. It’s not that I am too lazy to get off my butt, it is that I am too tired and fatigued to go on some days.
