Frugality, Value and Toilet Paper
As I do this “frugal living”, I have found I make a few mistakes along the way, yet I still learn. Thats what mistakes are for – learning.
Recently, I haven’t found many deals on the toilet paper(tp) that I like. I prefer Angel Soft or Cottonelle, and they have usually been at a pretty good price with a coupon, I’ve even gotten a few free. But that hasn’t been the case lately.
Walgreen’s had their usual deal for 20Â ¢ a roll on a Big Roll of tp. I have always figured I wouldn’t break my loyalty to my brands, but this time I did. I picked up 5 HUGE rolls and brought them home. I assumed they would be single ply and not very soft- boy was I suprised, not only were they NOT soft, newspaper wouldn’t be much worse to use!
I learned my lesson, I will still branch out to other brands, but not that one anytime soon. The savings wasn’t worth it to me
How about you? Have you learned from experience where you won’t cut expenses?
I’m starting to learn that good conditioner is worth it. You don’t have to get the absolute cheapest to get a good deal, nor is wrecking my hair to the point of cutting it all off worth the savings on conditioner. Pantene Smooth & Sleek will never cross the threshold of my home again. I wanted to like it, but couldn’t. Now I’m trying Tresemme. It’s cheaper, but the jury is still out.
I can recall as teenager, my mother & were shopping for feminine pads. She hated spending money on these necessities that basically have their use & get trashed (like toilet paper….don’t want to be without it…but it is sorta like throwing money away after a brief use). So we were in some grocery chain that had their “Why Pay More?” brand. So she bought a bag. Well, these babies had no glue, and had these ugly strap type things and were so thick I felt a half a foot taller when I sat down …. well needless to say — as my Mom said that fine day. “Now we know WHY we WILL Pay more!”.
Just a funny story that sticks with me…..sometimes it is worth saving a buck, and sometimes it just plain isn’t if the result is more time, aggravation, inferior product, etc.
Cereal. I have tried some no name brands of cereal and have discovered it (also like toilet paper) can be scrimped on. It is super expensive but worth every penny!
SHOES!!!
You can skimp on almost any type of clothing, except a good quality pair of shoes.
If you buy a $10 pair of shoes, your back and feet will pay the price in pain and suffering – both short term and long term.
You dont need to buy the latest and greatest, but a good quality pair of shoes will make your life alot easier and more comfortable now, and will avoid long term damage to your back and feet in the long term.
