Queercents introduces Andrew DeVita
Andrew DeVita is a 21-year-old transguy and recent transplant in the Pacific Northwest. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he spent two years in southwest Virginia studying Psychology before having an existential crisis, dropping out of school, and boarding a bus headed across the continent. A homeless stint and $3600 in credit card debt later, he settled in Olympia, Washington, where he splits rent with his roommate and her histrionic cat.
Considering he spent most of Econ 121 playing sudoku and daydreaming about his boyfriend, Andrew’s interest in personal finance had to arise from necessity. With both credit cards maxed out and a just-above-minimum-wage position in retail, he decided to apply the same radical changes to his personal finance philosophy that he had to his life at large. Thanks in part to a large library system and coffee shops with free wi-fi, he learned how to save, budget, and that a Roth IRA has nothing to do with Ireland. He will be writing a series at Queercents called Streetwise.
He now spends his days coordinating a program for young queer men through a local nonprofit and his spare time painting, sculpting, and studying whatever inter-library loan will allow him. Andrew prays daily to the FAFSA gods that he might return to university in the fall to study Mathematics, Physics, and Fine Art. He one day hopes to become a high school math teacher. Please welcome him to Queercents.
