Queercents introduces Elizabeth Byrne and Serena Freewomyn
Attention twentysomethings: We’ve added two new writers at Queercents. They’re young, hip and have their finger on the pulse of Gen Y, a generation typically shielded from financial responsibilities… but that’s not the case for Elizabeth Byrne and Serena Freewomyn.
Elizabeth Byrne is studying at Colby College, and is working on applying to graduate school for religious studies (along with the accompanying financial applications). A couple of years ago, she got a job working as a bank teller to understand the ins and outs of the financial world. She then spent two years observing and trying to learn from the mistakes she witnessed, only to discover that there were also proactive ways of dealing with finances.
Excited by the prospect of a new, more money-conscious self she discovered finance fits in the ‘œeasier said than done’ category, and is now working to unlearn years of conditioning as a consumer, while trying to find the balance between fun and frugal. Elizabeth is our new intern and will be taking over the Weekly Roundup in between posts about student finances and student loans. You can learn more about Elizabeth on her bio page.
Serena Freewomyn has a degree in Women’s Studies from Arizona State University and is getting ready to move back to the Los Angeles area. She is a long time community activist who has worked for the rights of immigrant and homeless communities. She’s a self-described anarchist, a peace activist, and a big fan of the WNBA (Go Mercury!).
She is currently working at ASU and attends the Le Cordon Bleu’s Culinary Management Program at Scottsdale Culinary Institute. Serena has provided us with a couple of guest posts over the last couple of months and we’re happy she decided to sign on as a regular contributor at Queercents. You can learn more about Serena on her bio page.
Please welcome them to Queercents!
